Gate – also known as Cheng-en Gate, located

constructed in 1882. Graded as a #1 historical site, the
North Gate provided important defense during Ching Dynasty.
- Taiwan
Provincial Office Building – A Yamen was
an official provincial department. This one was in charge
of civil and financial administration during the Ching Dynasty.
Located at the West side of the Botanical Gardens at Nan
Hai Road. Constructed in 1888, is graded as a #2 historical
site with Minnan characteristics, the only surviving Yamen
building in Taiwan today.
- Taipei
Confucius Temple – Located near Yuanshan
MRT station on the Danshui Line, constructed in 1919, is
graded as a #3 historical site for worshiping the great
sage and teacher – Confucius. The Confucian Temple
was constructed by the famous carpenter Wang Yi Shun, from
Fujian, near the end of the Ching Dynasty. He used the essence
of buildings from Southern China in the Confucian Temple
so it is a typical Minnan-style construction.
- Presidential
Building – Constructed in 1919, is a magnificent
Renaissance style structure. While it is open to the public,

- Chiung
Kai-Shek Memorial Hall – Located at the C.K.S.
Memorial Hall MRT station on the Danshui Line. Constructed
in 1977 to commemorate the late President Chang Kai Shek.

- Sun
Yat-Sen Memorial Hall – Located at Sun Yat-Sen
Memorial Hall MRT station on the Nangang Line. Completed
construction in 1972, its exterior imitates the palace style
of the Tang Dynasty. It commemorates the Father of the Republic
of China, Sun Yat-Sen. Inside is an exhibition hall that
will delight anyone interested in history. For further details

- National
Palace Museum – The exterior of the building
is traditional Chinese palace construction. Inside the collection
houses more than 600,000 historical relics. The museum is
one of the four biggest museums in the world along with
the British Museum, the Louvre Museum and New York Metropolitan
Museum. Visit the National Palace Museum to see ancient
cultural artifacts and appreciate the famous calligraphy

Museum of Contemporary Arts Taipei – Located
at the Yuanshan MRT station on the Danshui Line, it was
constructed in 1925, and is graded a # 3 historical site.
It was a primary school during the time of Japanese rule
and later was the old Taipei City Hall. In 2001 it was remodeled
into an Art Center combined with historical relics and technology.

- Red
Chamber– Located at the Hsimen MRT station
on the Pannan Line. Originally known as Octagon Public Market
it was constructed in 1908, is graded a # 3 historical site.
Originally a market and later became a theatre. Its beauty
had disappeared after years of disrepair but now its unsurpassed
elegance has been restored and the Red Chamber is again

Long Shan Temple- Located at Lung Shan Temple MRT
station on the Panchiao Line. Built in 1783, it is graded
a # 2 cultural asset of the nation and one of the three
famous sight-seeing spots for foreign tourists in Taiwan
along with the Palace Museum, and Chang Kai Shek Memorial
Hall. The temple is mainly for worshipping The Goddess of
Mercy or Kuanyin Boddhisattva. The lighting of incense and
candles brings prosperity and the temple is always very

- Hsiahai
Chenghuang Temple – Located on the most historically
significant old street - Tihua Street. One of the earliest
Cheng Huang Temples in Taiwan and constructed in 1859, it
is graded a # 3 cultural asset of the nation. The temple
is consecrated the Chinese equivalent of Cupid and many
young men and women come to pray for a happy and successful

- Hsintin
Temple – Located on Min Chuan East Road this
temple is also known as "En-Chu-Kung Temple".
It was constructed in 1908, and consecrated to Kuan Kung.
Although not a cultural asset or a famous sightseeing spot,
it is a place where you can observe Taiwanese religious
practices and get a sense of their feelings of solemn respect
for the temple and their beliefs.
After
seeing the above you might believe that Taipei is only old
buildings and museums, but you would be wrong! It is possible

Danshui – Formerly known as Hua-woei and
located at Danshui MRT station on the Danshui Line, it was
an international trade harbor during the Ching Dynasty.

make Danshui a popular and crowded scenic spot.
